Printer installation problem

Specs: Windows XP, 2 GB
I have a compaq presario cq40 laptop with win xp
32 bit o.s.. and when i try to install a local printer
on it, it will show me a disk read error on the
driver cd, but the cd is ok because i will
successfully install it on another machine, please
help me?

I would first go into Device Manager and uninstall the CD-ROM from there. Reboot, let Windows "find" it and install it and then try again. If it works, that was the issue.

If it doesn't work, you need to test the CD-ROM itself to ensure it's not broken. Do other disks work in it? If none do, then that's your problem.

I forgot to add, you can likely go to the manufacturer's website, download the printer drivers onto the laptop, and install from there instead of the CD.
