Prevent GetRight Download Mgr from Launching

June 10, 2010 at 04:17:18
Specs: WinXP, 2Gb
Only rarely is a RESUMING facility needed these days, so I want to keep GetRight only for those rare ocassions; but it can INTERFERE with downloading when there is NO need for RESUMING, so I want to keep it UNLAUNCHED until I need it. I can not find that option in its Preferences, nor does it have an entry in MSConfig; StartUp tab, that I could untick. There is probably something in Registry that might block it. Can you help me prevent GetRight from launching ?

GetRight Download Manager is a third party program and not a native Windows XP app. You may get better help by visiting the program's home page.

can you not just click on cancel when the download mnager pops up?
That's what I do in windows 7 with free download manager. You can still download normally after that.

Could it be in your users start menu or all users start menu?

It will be found with the apps at systernals.

Does it appear in the list in task manager?

If so, it might be running as a service.

Go to Start > Run, type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and hit OK.

Look through the list of services, and if it's there, you should be able to disable it.

Of course, this is all guesswork. I've never used GetRight and have no idea how it gets configured during the install. But, at least it won't take long to look there. I do know, from my programming days, that a program can be made to run as a service.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Jefro and Sci-Guy
Good suggestions - I'll try and report back.

<< found with the apps at systernals>>
I am not aware that I have a systernals in my WinXP, or do I misunderstand your instruction ?

Jefro : <<Could it be in your users start menu or all users start menu?>> GetRight is not mentioned in any of the startup folders.

Sci-Guy - Getright does not appear among the Services.

Best thing to do is remove it. Try regcleaner from JV tools and remove all the entries:
http://www.321download.com/LastFree...

Then you can download the manager again and use it when you want.

I would think is has to be running in the background or it couldn't act as it does.

Have you looked in the program folder to see if there are any configuration files there?

GetRight has 3 'ini' and 9 txt/log files that can be opened in a text editor. None of them give the option not to launch.

If GetRight works through browser plug-ins, then it may be possible to dis-able it from a particular browser's "extensions/add-ons/plug-ins/etc." or un-selected within GetRight's "Monitor" configuration window.

No I haven't - I do not really want to get into Registry Cleaners,
especially since it has not been contaminated. GetRight is simply very 'pushy'
