"Product: Maxtor Hard disk drives 7000a series int 1gb ultra ata/33 hdd"

That hard drive is way too small to install XP on. It won't fit. Neither will 2000.
It's even too small to install Win 98SE on, and have a decent amount of free space too.

It's also very old. It was probably made between circa 93 to 96.
Seagate bought out Maxtor, but they have no info on their site about the 7000A model series.

Similar ancient models here have crude jumper info:

7000LLF.EXE - 03/96 7000A series Low Level Format program

CACHE.EXE - 08/93 Turn 7000A CACHE on or off

GREENDRV.ZIP - 04/94 To place 7000A drives in "sleep mode"

IDE.ZIP - 09/94 Data on all IDE drives, IDE specs, CMOS, & Jumper settings for all Maxtor IDE Drives

if no picture you'll have to do it the hard way... try a few options
with the pins... Put in the pin(s) then check the bios. Keep doing
till you get the right setting on the jumpers...

It looks like this also applies to your hard drive:

When everything else fails, read the instructions.
