PC shuts down on its own. No Video either

Specs: Windows XP sp2
I'm working on a friends PC, i have fixed many over the years but this one seems to have me stumped.

The PC will power up and after 2-3 minutes it shuts itself off. I can turn it right back on and it will happen again. Also there is a GeForce 6200 graphics card installed using the VGA port. The card was working properly before the PC started shutting down but now it does not.

I removed the PSU cleaned the case out, removed the RAM and reseated it and even tried different power cables from the PSU.

Win XP sp2
GeForce 6200
2 gb ram
ASUS MB

Any help is appreciated.

'Also there is a GeForce 6200 graphics card installed using the VGA port. The card was working properly before the PC started shutting down but now it does not.'

Don't understand. Do you mean there's onboard graphics or a separate card. If its not working, how do you know machine is powering up?

If by powering up you mean its displaying XP installation on screen - have you checked the cpu temperature?

Is it the same in safe mode?

I can see the power lights and hear the drives boot up but the pc loses power (does not shut down just turns off).

Before i lost the picture it would get to the win starting screen and then shut off. Without having a picture i can only assume it is doing the same thing now.

I get no picture tried 2 different monitors and its as if nothing is connected to them.

The graphics card is separate card. the onboard graphics do not work either but they did not work before these problems started.

Let me know if you need any more info.

EDIT - I got the display working again but it still powers off on its own. I figured out that the pc doesnt lose power. The green light on the mobo stays on. It just turns off with no warning or anything.

Im gonna see if it powers off while in the bios and try to determine if its a software problem or hardware.

EDIT2 - I got it to power on and stay on as of this post. I just unplugged everything and removed and reseated the cpu. Now im gonna try to repair or reinstall win xp.
