Specs: Windows XP
Hi. I'm trying to open a windows movie maker file on my xp machine, that was produced on a vista machine. The extention is .MSWMM, but I get an error message telling me that the file has been created by a version of MM which is not supported. Is there a way of opening the file?

On Vista, you have to save MSWMM in a compatible mode for Movie Maker 2.1, which is, as far as I know, the latest version on XP.

Thanks Paul,
I opened the 'about' tab on my movie maker, and it tells me that it is version 5.1 and was part of the SP3 update. I can't find a version 2.1 on the microsoft site.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't really know the version number on winxp sp3 but that's not the point.
The point is, that any existing windows xp version of Movie Maker will not work with projects of the vista version.
So in the vista version, you have to save the project in a compatible mode, just like you have to do such thing on work documents, to make sure, that office 97 users can also open and read such files.

Oh, I see.

Oh, well, I guess it's back to the originators machine then. Mind you, he'll have to make the coffee :-))

Thanks for your time Paul
