Opening DBX Files

November 23, 2009 at 13:35:22
Specs: Windows XP, AMD Sempron
Well it looks like my PC is on it's way out. I have saved everything to my external drive, however when I save the E-mail folders they save as dbx. extension. When you go to open them you get the open with which application box and Outlook Express doesn't show there. Does anybody know of a trusted free downloadable software for opening these?

Many Thanks

Ivan.

If you are going to reinstall windows then I would have thought
you would be able to open them.

You should not be copying email folders/files. You should export everything so you can then import it later.

That option only allows Export to Outlook or Exchange.

My other option then if anybody knows if this is possible could I install Outlook on the external hardrive and the move all the messages.

Good point Clive, if I save them as dbx then bring the dbx files back to Outlook (if that is possible) when I get a new PC they should hopefully open.

why you don`t try to import them now, on another computer ?

Did that, sent them to a CD-Rw, introduced the CD-Rw and they are of the dbx type and they won't import. But now I have just this minute come up with the easiest and most basic solution, they say the simple ones are the best.

I forward them all to my partners computer via E-mail and then when I get a new PC e-mail them all back.

Simple!
