There are 'many' different kinds of DAT files and it's almost impossible to determine which program it is associated with. There is a 'slim' chance that it is a video file that Windows Media Player can play.

dat is a completely generic extension that tons of programs
use. It could be a VCD data file, graphical analysis data file,
Microsoft Word temp file, whatever.
If you don't know what software created it then your best bet
is to open it in a hex editor and see if there's any information
that would indicate what kind of file it is.
