Only 137 GB recognized of 320 GB HD

Specs: Windows XP, 2 GB
My neighbors computer is a Dell Dimension 3000. I upgraded the PATA HD from 70 GB to 320 GB. Tried to install Windows XP Pro and when I got to the part of formatting the HD, it only showed 137 GB of space. I checked the BIOS and it recognized the HD as 320 GB. I installed windows anyway, but after looking at the C Drive properties, it only shows 137 GB. Tried resetting the BIOS, but that did not work. Tried enabling the 48 Bit LBA in the registry and again nothing. I haven't installed any Service Packs yet. I am missing something, but I don't know what that could be. Help!

"I haven't installed any Service Packs yet."

You need at least SP1 to break the 137GB limit:

I have installed Windows XP Pro and Service Pack 2. Properties for C: Drive still shows 137 GB. Under Disk Management, 183 GB of the drive is shown as Unallocated space. In the registry, the entry for enabling the 48-Bit LBA is there and set to a value of 1. Had to change my CMOS battery. It was at 2V. I installed and used the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools CD and it found a problem with the 137 GB barrier and would correct it by restarting my computer. It restarted my computer, but nothing changed. Problems still exists. Not sure what else I can do at this point. I'm open to any suggestions.
