one website found waiting for reply rest ok

September 21, 2010 at 00:21:30
Specs: Windows XP
A newish website that I need to access to add stuff for my part time work wont stay up on my laptop. It works fine on my husbands old office computer, I know it also works fine for the other users of it.

It was ok up until Thursday 16th but now it comes up first time I try to get on then within 30 seconds drops off leaving the whizzing wheel in the tab, a blank screen, 'website found. waiting for reply' bottom left, sometimes says 'done' but still blank.

I am not all that computer literate so I really do need a step by step guide if anybody thinks they can help me.

Many thanks for your time
Hilary

Hilary, you can repair IE7 or install another browser, whatever is easiest. You can install as many different browsers as you like, just a matter of choosing which one you want as default. I have a lot of browsers installed because I like to see how they work, refer this screenshot.

You were so helpful yesterday thought I'd try you again! Its happened again with firefox, just the one site won't load message reads: "The page isn't redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
cookies."
I have checked my Firefox settings and they say "accept cookies from sites" and "allow third party cookies

I'm using a laptop with wireless connection, would that make any difference? Or do you think it's something on the site that is blocking me?

Thanks so much
Hilary

Thanks, done that and no change at all. So strange it's just that one site, the developers of the site tried to tell me it's because I've got a wireless connection - surely that can't be right. There must be something on the site that's locking me out?

I think you are being very kind to try & help me the site is www.lovetheraces.com - oddly there another 'voice' who can't get on like me.

Hubby & I, not to mention site developers - they can't be up to much - baffled!

"Just me and 1 other having probs as I mentioned in previous post"

Sorry, missed that.

Yep, got on no problem.

If you have your wireless manual & are confident to do a reset, it's worth a try, it may be doing the blocking.

Reset, restarted, you name it we've now tried! I'm back on the site on firefox (but not on Internet Explorer,) I wonder for how long!

Anyway I can still get into the back of the site to upload my blogs etc which is the important bit so I'm going to manage as it is - hopefully. I can always check site on husbands steam driven machine upstairs.

Truly thankful for your help, not sure where you are but if in need of a B&B ever www.hawthorn-house.co.uk .....!!!!

John, the site developers have been on it was - they hope - a problem with a well known social site somehow blocking the uploading of the web page as I was logged onto it through them?? Anyway, fingers crossed it seems to be working ok at the moment.

Thanks again for all your help,

Hilary

I'm in Western Australia Hilary, thanks for that, you never know.

I think you should be right now, I see the log in entry, up the top r/h part of the page.& if they found a problem, they are in a position to fix it, I just logged on & it worked.
