Odd files on my C drive

February 20, 2009 at 19:05:52
Specs: Windows XP, 2.4/1gig
I am accumulating unknown files on the root c drive. Using XP. For example: s5l4.1a, s5l4.1b,s5l4.1c, etc. There are hundreds of them. The sizes vary. I have monitored them and can't find any particular program that's running that might trigger these to be installed. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks for any replies.

Run autoruns and might have to verify apps. Might have to disable stuff until you find what is causing it. Do they still happen in safe mode.

The problem is very few apps ought to have access to that area. Be sure you run it in limited accounts.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
