None Of My .exe Files Are Opening

April 1, 2011 at 04:50:58
Specs: Windows XP
Like I can't open a .exe file without a thing opening asking open with: And then a list of programs to open. I can't get into my iTunes or even add or remove programs either it just says: Application not found. And I'm about to flip and toss this thing out the window. So if you could help I would be extremly greatful, thanks.

Open a command prompt (if you can) and type the command "assoc .exe". It should display:

.exe=exefile

If not try "assoc .exe=exefile". Also check that "assoc exefile" returns

exefile=Application

and if not set it. If this fails I would recommend a thorough scan for malware.

The above should work but I like the song.

Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could
Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you

Those instructions were so helpful. Saved me from a freak out session. Thank you soo much for posting!
Out of curiosity, what is the issue that causes the .exe files to refuse to open properly?
