Depending on the hard drive format (FAT, FAT32, NTFS a.s.o.) you may download an ordinary DOS boot disk and check the partitions with FDISK, or you download something like KNOPPIX (Linux Live CD).
With a KNOPPIX CD, you can access the hard drive, if it's not corrupt or if you haven't lost all your partitions on the hard drive.
