I had this problem. (windows XP - SP3) boot up until the password screen and then no VGA signal and the monitor went into hibernation. I did an "update driver" in device manager for the video card and in the wizard, I chose the bottom choice on all 3 pages, allowing me to select what I wanted to update.
Did a restart and, voila!.. The monitor works fine now, which is hooked up to my laptop.
Thanks for the ideas. It sure worked for me..
Uuuuhh, so are you posting a solution to a problem you had and you either solved it on your own or with assistance from older threads on this site or are you asking for additional help? Either way, you might want to explain how you did the driver update if the monitor was blank. Did you do it safe mode?
