Specs: Windows XP
I can't hear any more the peice of music when my Laptop XP opens and shuts down why? How can I repair it?

When Windows shuts down, the sound device and the media player cannot work. That is normal.

Things must have changed since W98 which used to play a sound when switching off - it probably delayed shutdown. I had my own sound for it.

Whatever, go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab.
See what is set against those available/required - there is a test button on the right when one is highlighted (to the left of the Browse button).
