Solved networking xp home to win7 asking for username and password.

Specs: Windows 7
While trying to network my two home computers the xp home is asking for a username and password to get into win7, not so for the win7 to xp home. I haven't set a password or username and don't know how to get passed it. thank you.

You need to change the permissions on Windows 7.

Go to Control Panel> Network and sharing center> Change advanced sharing settings. Then follow the prompts. You may need to reboot both computers before the setting take.

I forgot to mention that you also need to enable sharing of any files and printers on the Windows 7 computer that you wish to share.

Open Computer and right click on the icon at the left of each drive listing that you wish to share. Choose Share with> advanced sharing> Sharing> Advanced sharing. check -share this folder> permissions> follow the prompts.

If you don't want to share an entire drive then expand the drive and right click on the folder/s you want to share and then follow the same outlined process.
