Netgear FA311 Network Card

Dell / Precision workstation 340
December 28, 2010 at 17:16:53
Specs: Windows XP, 1.994 GHz / 1023 MB
I've been trying to install this driver on my XP machine. I've gone to netgears website(http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/322) and downloaded the up-to-date drivers, but when I try to update it, the "Hardware Update Wizard" doesn't recognize the file needed to update the driver. I've found a similar problem to mine(http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/netgear-fa311-network-card/30169.html), but not sure how to get it working step by step. Thanks in advance!

That is a very old driver and only supports older versions of Windows up to Windows 2000.

Sometimes drivers for Windows 2000 will work in Windows XP.

To try that follow the procedure / instructions in the Win2k_me.txt file in the directory:
:F31XV180/Ver 1.80/HELP/Win2k_me

Thanks for the reply, I don't know what this "Drivers and Diagnostics disk" is though.
ex :
5. Insert the Drivers and Diagnostics disk into the floppy drive.
Select only "Floppy disk drives" option and click on Next.

Windows 2000/ME will indicate that a driver for the device has been
found. A floppy disk icon indicates that "a:\netfa31x.inf" is
where it is able to locate the device driver.

You do not have to use a floppy.
You can just extract the contents of the zip file to somewhere on your hard drive and point to it.

So in item 5 you would NOT select floppy but select the location to where you extracted the contents of the zip file and point to the sub directory Ver 1.80 which contains the file netfa31x.inf
