Need to recover deleted.dbx files

January 11, 2013 at 14:00:01
Specs: Windows XP
I can open the import in outlook express and find the path where the deleted items.dbx is but it give me an error because I have outlook express open to do this. I found a help topic that said to rename the file deletedold.dbx and it would restore but that didn't work either. Any help???

I understand what you are saying about finding the location of the deleted items.dbx file itself (within the system). Otherwise I'm struggling a bit to understand your question.

Can you clarify what has happened and what you are trying to do please?

Reading between the lines it appears that you might have deleted some emails from the Deleted Items box and are trying to recover them - is that right? If so, probably the best chance is to do System Restore to a date before that.

There are free programs such as Recuva. If you can get the original old dbx file back (properly identified as such) you would then have to copy it on top of the one that now exists in the system, and the emails at that time would then be present in the OE Deleted Items box.

When you rename the file deleted items.dbx Outlook Express will promptly create a new replacement file and therefore an empty Deleted Items box will appear in OE.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

"This is suspected spam."

Agreed. I looked at his other posts and every one of them was for the same company's recovery software. He wasn't even very original, he just copied and pasted what the website said in to his posts.

Better say that the original spam response #3 has now been removed, because it now looks as if I am saying I'm a spammer myself LOL.
