Solved Need to change user name in XP

Specs: Windows XP, x86 1995 MHz
Is there a way to change the user name in win xp? I want to change that name without having to reinstall windows.

Yes you can do that. But create the new one first. You can then transfer documents from the old to the new and then delete the old. You will need to take possession of the documents as the new user in order to read them

If you mean the name and/or company details that are entered when Windows is setup, those details can be changed in the Registry. Go here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310441

You can either choose the "Fix it for me" method, or scroll lower down for instructions on how to edit those details in the Registry yourself.

No that didnt do it. I want the user name in the docs and settings folder to change.

You can change the display name but you cannot change the user name. The user name is linked to all your documents and settings via a GUID.
