need to access properties for printing

July 20, 2010 at 04:24:04
Specs: Windows XP

I just seen a strange issue with one of the printers:

I cannot directly print to it, only way to make it print is to walk into the properties tab (no changes necesary) and then send file to printer.

Any ideeas ?

How is the printer connected? Interesting description of how you get the printer working, BTW.

Did the printer previously work OK?

Hardware specs, including printer model may be helpful. You haven't supplied much to go on.

Oh ... sry ... i was quite in a hurry when posted :)

It`s a HP LaserJet 4250 shared on network.

Usualy you look in properties to see if something is wrong.

First i tried to print an email and solved like this. Then tried with a word document and saw that i still cannot print so i went over properties tab again ... and surprise ... it works :)

Can you access other resources on the network?

I suggest you delete the printer listing and re-install. Use the Wizard to install.

Is this a business environment? If so, why aren't you consulting IT? Or are you IT?

So, even after re-installing the network printer it hangs hangs until you access the properties screen for the printer?

Possible the number of users in permissions settings has something to do with it?

I probably can't be of much help to you. Perhaps someone else will happen along with more knowledge on your configuration.
