Hi

I'm not computer savvy but after reading the net and searching on my system finally realised that the problem is I don't have rundll32.exe on my computer (not in processes in task manager) even when I tried to find my exact OS by right clicking on My Computer the error rundll32.exe application not found pops up and the same when I try to access other items in control panel. I have read on a previous thread that someone has emailed this file to other members and I was hoping someone could do the same for me please.

I don't any CD's to the computer, it was bought second hand with no discs (stupid I know)

Help would be much appreciated!!!

Thank you in advance

... go to "start" search click "All files and folders" (type) rundll32.exe press search

... are you sure its not there?

... nope its not... ok...... do the same again this time search for rundll32.ex_

... that should be in "c:\windows\I386\" ... if its there!

... if there go to "start" run (type):

expand c:\windows\I386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe [press OK]

... the above is all one line with a "space" before C:

... restart pc

Hiya Mavis007

Thank you for your reply. rundll32.ex_ is not there either, should this be there or does this mean big problems now?

Thank you

I've pm you back.

I did have norton on but can't access that now don't know if that's because the rundll32 is missing. We did have a xp 2010 internet security thing come up the other day stating that our computer is at risk and paid $69 for this for 2 years and this was through windows update.

Be very careful what you click on which says your computer is at risk. What you describe as "XP 2010 Internet Security" is bogus and it's a great pity you bought it. Sadly you've been duped and the thing is more or less like a virus itself - almost certainly the reason for your current problems. I doubt there was originally anything wrong with your computer.

If something like this pops up you should back straight out of it in future, using Alt key plus F4. Even clicking the X on their boxes can start the dowload.

Here's some info on how to remove it:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/vir...

If you don't fancy going through that lot then put a new post on the Security forum saying that you downloaded "XP 2010 Internet Security" and need help to remove it and get your machine working again.

Read enough on that link above to make yourself aware in case anything similar should pop up again.

Chazy81, I'd call your credit card provider and ask them to cancel payment on that $69.00 that you got ripped off for. They ought to put those b---tards behind bars.

... I doubt that its a bogus one maybe not setup right, take a look at the related links a couple of hops from Response number 5 << click concerning windows updates, not much fun if you do'nt know "how".

... anyway "Chazy81" have you managed to "unzip" that file and place it were it should go? (and rebooted)

Not sure I got your drift.

"XP 2010 Internet Security" is most definitely bogus. It's exact title is given in my link, which says it pretends to be from Windows Updates. It also refers to it stopping specific exe files from working.

You don't pay $69 for anything via MS Updates. The only product from MS is "Microsoft Security Essentials", which is free and does NOT come via Windows Updates. I have it on my own machine.

If the original poster is still around, this scam needs to be removed pronto before it does any more damage.

Hi Mavis007 and Derek

Sorry I've not been online all day and only just logged on from a different computer, Derek I've got to get a usb and will then download and copy from usb to infected computer.

Mavis007 I will try again so I copy and past the zipped folder, or do I unzip it first. I'm so sorry if what I'm asking seems stupid just really not clued up about computer and have serious pregnancy brain 2 at the minute.

Also we did ring up the card provider and blocked the card, also changed all internet passwords and stuff, bank said today that the company is in Azerbaijan or something.

Thank you for all your advice I really appreciate it and I'm getting this sorted on Sunday (going to try tomorrow nite if I'm back early enough) as I'm not in all day tomorrow so will be back in touch then.

Mavis will confirm but if it contains rundll32.exe you will need to unzip it into:
c:\windows\system32

However, if your rundll32 issue came along after you downloaded that rogue it would be best to concentrate on getting rid of that first. It's quite likely that the rundll32.exe problem will go away in the process. Follow the instructions to the letter!

You can always replace rundll32.exe later if you need to.

You guys have been such a great help, I can't thank you enough!!!

Good news.

If you should come back to this post:-

Don't forget that if you ever run into one of those again, get out of it using
Alt +F4 keys. As I said, clicking the close X often starts the thing installing.

When is baby due and do you know what sort it will be?

Derek

I can assure you that alt +F4 is imprinted in both me and my husbands brains ;) whatever pops up I'll be alt+F4-ing it straight away!

Baby due 19th June and it's the hormone and mood filled type so poor husband in a household full of females ;)

Take care!
