Need help restoring History files!

Specs: Windows XP Pro
I have just (re)installed my OS on my pc so that I may backup files. I was having Windows OS file issues and many things were getting buggy and I had no choice but to install the OS to ANOTHER folder, on the same drive with the original (bad) one. It worked, but it seemed to have deleted my History files (IE7) which I needed to backup as well.

There appears to be no restore point before the installation in the new OS. I tried signing into the older one and many things are too stubborn to check around.
I'm aware the machine does not fully delete files until you format or otherwise... Is there any way to restore my IE 7 browser history from this point??
Much thanks in advance.

What you should have done was repair the original installation, that would have been fairly simple. What you've done now is create a huge mess & probably the easiest way out is to format & do a clean install. Why do you need to retrieve your browser history files?

Anything you need in history should have been saved in favorites. Your history folder grows fast and out of control if you do not clean it out regularly, and has been the source of many people's SLOW computers over the years. Favorites are much easier to save/transfer and will save only one instance of a site rather than many dozen in history if you visit regularly. Sorry for your problem, but installing two instances of windows on the same partition is just compounding your problem, not fixing it. Save anything you can to separate medium and format/reinstall clean your windows XP, and your computer will work much better in the long run.
