Rainmeter (desktop animations)

a little bit about the problem:
i usually run at around 700-800mb ram all the time, but thats because firefox is running all the time and it uses about 100mb plus 50mb for plugin container. i think this could be a large cause in it but firefox is the only browser that works well cpu wise on my computer. ive tried google chrome, internet explorer, and opera and none worked as well. when i right click in a file in my computer or anywhere in windows explorer (i think thats what its called) or on the desktop it sometimes takes forever or freezes the desktop for a few seconds to a minute. but i overall just need windows to run faster. i want to play minecraft but it closes randomly after a little but if not right away. any speed boost tips or advice would be super appreciated. THANKS AGAIN!!

The specs I read on your model suggest 2g is the ram max.. So you could add another 1g stick of ram usually not too pricey. Before I spent the money I would download seatools from seagates website and do a the long diagnostic on the hard drive to make sure a failing hard drive is not the problem. Other than that not alot. Running an anti malware program such as malwarebytes or similar to help keep it running clean. 1 gig is not a lot of ram for xp but it is ok, 2 gigs may offer some speed improvement, you may wish to have an eye to a newer model.

Too play the games well you should have a dual or quad core laptop, but it's whats in ones budget.

What are you hoping to accomplish? Laptops do not overclock well, if at all. Laptops have weak graphics.

You have a laptop that appears to be 7 or 8 years old. In was designed to be a portable business machine. More RAM would help. You may also be able to increase the amount of dedicated RAM to the graphics to 128MB.

Straining the graphics with slideshows and desktop animations is counterproductive.

ok, well, i wasnt able to fix the problem the way i wanted. i installed windows 7 on it. and it runs great actually no lag, even when watching videos, no problems to speak of. although there is one thing. my cpu spikes when i open things like firefox, or minecraft, or other stuff. is this just natural seeing as im using a really old pentium 4 cpu?
