Right heres the score, my father in law has just gave me a laptop and it was originally a xp but hes put windows vista on it from his new laptop. So its made mine really slow and my laptop now thinks its his toshiba. I need to get xp back on here. I have the product key as its on the bottom of the laptop but i ant got a disk? any help?
The sticker on the bottom of the laptop is NOT a product key. It is a Certificate of Authenticity that attested the Windows on the machine is genuine. You need to contact Toshiba to purchase a set of Windows XP Restoration CDs unique to this machine.
Most laptops have a partition with a restore image. Maybe your stepdad didn't wipe it out. They also usually have a keyboard key combination to hit during a boot to start the restore program. Go to the website of the laptop's manufacturer and look for help with a 'Restore' or 'Reformat' (which they sometimes erroneously call it).
