Specs: Windows XP
in your reply to my question you said that you couldn't verify that the inspiron 1100 was mine and therefore could not help me with the password that was enter by original owner. What kind of document do i need to get to you so that you will know that the notebook is mine. The person who gave it to me agreed to fax a document to me indicating that i received it from him. Will that do or do you need something else. please respond. e-mail : animalshelter2@hotmail.com

your reply to my question was that you needed verification that the inspiron 1100 was mine. It was a gift, but after speaking to the guy who gave it to me said that he would be willing to fax a document to me indication that i received the notebook from him as a gift. will that do? Or do you need something else.

You don't get any document to us, you would probably need the receipt that the original owner got when he purchased the computer and then call Dell. We arent going to help you with password removal.

And since you are in contact with the person who gave you the machine why not just ask them the password? Unless of course they weren't the rightful owner in the first place. You see where we're going with this? Only the manufacturer can help with lockout passwords on laptops.

I agree, why not ask the former owner for the password? What kind of gift is that?

The best thing you can do is read the owners manual for exactly how to return this to the as bought state. Dell offers many ways to do that including the ability to purchase new media in some cases for a small fee. Contact Dell for more help.
