Download and install this little MS program:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...

It is a good one to have onboard as it stops shutdown hangs. You might still have a few other issues to sort out later but see how you get on.

saeed izadi , I have to agree with Derek, sorta. Me and my (overactive?) paranoia suspect a nasty at work. I'd scan first in any event to make sure I was dealing with a clean machine. THEN, FWIW, Windows seems to have had shutdown problems since release. I use a standalone proggie for shutdown (run XP) and have placed an icon shortcut to it in my quicklauch (for convenience). It's called 'Slawdog' and they claim it works with all versions of Windows. Get it free @:

Just to add to my #1, the reason I advocate MS UPH Clean is that you simply install it and forget it. There are no settings or features, it just makes XP shut down a lot faster by automatically clearing programs that hang. As per #2, XP has always been liable to shutdown issues, although some of it might have been due to third pary programs.

As I said tho, you probably have some other issues but it will help if it gets one out of the way.
