I have connected a different monitor... won't work either. This problem began a couple months ago and was only now and then. Figured I would need a new monitor. Not the problem... HELP!

Possibly a faulty graphics card. If you got onboard video (as well) connect the monitor to that output. The bios has possibly reset to onboard device rather than graphics card. If you got a TV out, connect to a TV. Nvidia Control Panel sometimes resets itself if you clone the video options and you shut down incorrectly.
I am having the same problem .... is there a simple way to check the video card for problems?
