What is the exact make and model of the computer?

So the computer does POST?

Is it possible that the floppy disc has simply failed and that's why it isn't being recognized as a bootable device? They tend to be fairly unreliable...

What is it that was on the floppy disc that you think you should be able to boot from?

What happens when you try to boot from the hard drive?

You need to provide a lot more information than you have. What is the make of your computer, is the diskette you are using boot-able, what is on the diskette, You say you don't have a CD anyway but does the CDROM work if you do insert a CD.

Your not going to boot from a floppy disk to install Windows XP, you probably don't have a floppy in the drive so that is why it's telling you the device is not available.

You will either need to boot to the restore partition or if Dell didn't set it up that way you will need to acquire an XP install CD.

PS. It's called a desktop computer, not dest top.
