My computer won't detect my SATA Cd Drive

December 1, 2011 at 08:08:40
Specs: Windows XP
Like the title says, it won't detect it BUT, however, will detect my SATA Hard drive. I notice while during the boot up of my computer, the bios list what cords are plugged up for the SATA drives and it used to list both my CD drive and my Hard drive but doesn't list the CD drive at anymore. It says it auto detects my Hard drive and tries to do the same with my CD drive but takes a couple of minutes and says its undetectable and loads everything else and starts up windows.

Can any help me out?

sorry if I'm not being specific enough or if I'm repeating the same things over. I'm very tired right now and been trying to figure this out all night.

Then the cable may not be fully seated or it may be folded too tightly. SATA cables can't have sharp bends in them. Also check the power cable.

Enter the BIOS (setup) screens at start up and verify all SATA controllers are enabled.

Does the tray open and close by use of the button on the face of the CD drive?
