my computer will not lt me run downloads

Specs: Windows XP, 2.83GHZ/ 8 GB RAM
when i try to download anything, it will never let me run files. the only message i get is would you like to save this file. then when i go to open it it says your download is complete. then when i go to look for it i cannot find it anywhere. EVEN IN THE ALL PROGRAMS LIST WHERE IT SHOULD BE!

Downloads usually go to the Downloads folder... have a look in your browser options and see where downloads are set to go.

Getting the option to Run a download means it's downloaded in a temporary folder. When you use Save, you specify where you want to save it (possibly already specifying where within your browser's options).

By default, Firefox tries to save downloads in My Documents > downloads

I believe the temp folder Internet Explorer uses is C:\WINDOWS\Temp
