Specs: Windows XP service pack 3
Hi everybody, so my problem is that my computer shuts off after a while. My cousin he looked at it and he said that I had no anti-virus program on it. When he "fixed" my computer everything was fine. But the next day I had the same problem. Does somebody have any ideas what's wrong with it..??

I would begin my troubleshooting by ensuring that all of the pc's fans are functioning and not blocked by dust. This includes the cpu fan and heatsink. I would also unplug the pc and reseat ram plus any pci cards plugged into the motherboard like sound card, etc. You can also run event viewer to see what entries are listed under system. I would also suggest running an error check on the hard drive to ensure the data's integrity.

also check XP's Power Options control panel. If the Hibernation feature is enabled it may be set to automatically hibernate & shut down after it has been idle for a while. try turning off Hibernation to see if your shut down problems go away.

islandgirl, what kind of computer do you have? You can run the MS System Information tool [msinfo32.exe] from the Run dialog box to gather info about your computer.
