✔ Best Answer
1. run the PC in BIOS - does it freeze there?
2. run Ubuntu from a CD (no need to install) - does it freeze?

if it does not freeze in any of the above the problem is with your Windows installation. Reinstall windows and make sure to use correct drivers.

If it does freeze with the above (points 1&2) the problem most likely is with the hardware

Doubtful it's the processor, more likely you have bad RAM or your hard drive is failing. I would lean more towards a bad hard drive as RAM is less likely to fail. Boot into the BIOS and see if it has a built in hard drive diagnostics program. If so, run it. If not, find out the manufacture of your hard drive, go their website and most likely they will have a diagnostic program you can download for your drive.

To boot into your BIOS watch the starup screen, it will usually tell you the key to press to get to the BIOS. If you can't find it, post back the manufacture of your computer.
