Mswmm 5.1 freezes

May 11, 2010 at 06:13:13
Specs: Windows XP
Whilst making videos, using MSWMM, I'll be going on nicely then the cursor will start moving erraticaly i.e. moving a second or two after I try to point it, and the operation I required will take its time in activating.
Then (still in MSWMM),the imported images on Storyboard or Timeline play erraticaly when I check video content. A minute or so later everything "freezes". I have to "Exit" by turning the Computer off, waiting a minute then restarting.
At all other times the Computer works fine.I've not downloaded anything to cause this problem.I've Defragged, Spybotted, Restored, deleted filters & ensured Comp is cool hoping that may solve it, no chance.
I run WINDOWS XP,128 ATHLON processor
,56k MODEM,1.5GB RAM,120 GB Hard Drive.What I can do to rectify this problem,please?

Price, SWAG, sounds to me like you have a nasty (worm/trojan) at work. IE and the cursor are frequent targets.
Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I’m not paid for recommendation) can do the job and you can get it free @:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.
The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.
HTH.

Tried as you suggested Ed, my computer is squeaky clean of bugs, both Suerantispyware and Spybot say so. Sadly there's been no difference. However, thanks for your help, much appreciated. It would seem from the replies (or lack of) that it's an extremly rare problem and no one in the Western Hemisphre, other than yourself, has any ideas of how to cure it.:-))

MSWMM version 5.1 is not made by M$ themselves. I don't know where you got it. M$ also has WMM but the latest version that exist is Version 2.6 for XP & Version 6 in Vista.

Thanks XpUser. Your information made me double check the MSWMM version, which is version 2.1.4027.0 Microsoft Corp 2004,which I downloaded on WindowsXP Home edition years ago. My apologies to Ed in Texas for giving out the wrong info. Nevertheless, the problem still remains.I've made other videos using this version and had the same problem, but not as bad as is now. My Computer and mswmm are clean(see previous comment). Any ideas XpUser, and is there a free download for the 2.6 version?
