Where did you save the MP3 conversion to and what programme did you use to do so?

Are you sure the extension is mp3 or is it possible that you assume they are wav because of the application that opens them?

Downloaded the songs to Real Player and saved them to the library and at that time they were MP3 files because you can't email a WAV file so I put them in MP3 form. I was going to email a song that I knew was MP3 but when I was going to email the song I seen it was in WAV form. All my songs were put into MP3 form but some of the MP3 changed to WAV for some reason. They were MP3 but now they are WAV. Is there an explanation why this has happened? Is there a way to convert the songs back to MP3 form?

My guess is...
You used a program to convert them to .mp3 but did not realize that you set the program to make copies of the originals.
Do a search on your hard drive for all files *.mp3 to see if you can locate them.

Otherwise the only time I am familiar with files types changing is when a virus does it.

do you open any other media players up.. at all... or Do you also have that folder on your/a network..
if any of those are true..
one of the players that you or another user uses & has set folders to monitor.. is set to convert files.. much like renaming and rearranging files if set to.

It can be a real pain.. I had family come in from VA.. connected to my network... next thing I knew some 6k tunes had already been converted before I caught it..

It can be simple matter of just altering the setting to convert them back or find a converter to do a batch job
