Specs: Windows XP
Hello all. My problem is my mouse won't work. thw arrow icon is frozen. I have restarted and let it reboot. I have unplugged at the start up and then plugged back in, but it still does'nt work. I used my keyboard to get into my start page, then tried to system restore, and also to run a test on my mouse, but i can only get so far because i can't click propperties. My question is how can i use only my keyboard to system restore to go to an earlier restore point, or another way to reconfiqure mouse, or re-install mouse device. it's a ps/2 mouse. thank for any help.

A ps/2 mouse will only work if it is connected at bootup. It is not like usb which you can plug and unplug.

Before you do a system restore try another mouse or at the least test the mouse on another system to assure its is good.

You don't mention optical so I have to ask if you have taken the roller ball out and cleaned the two roller contacts?

Mice are cheap. Get a new one if you have any doubt about this being a working one.

Thanks for the help. I went through and re-configured the mouse driver at boot up, and it worked.I appreciate you responding so quickly as well. Again, thanks.

Possibly the PS2 port is damaged for the mouse. Hardware failure or unplugging and reconnecting when the system is running can damage the port. Have you checked into using a USB mouse instead or tried a different PS2 one? New mice models that are not expensive and this could get you up and running without trying to spend more time testing.
