Solved Mouse not responding with new batteries

Specs: Windows XP
I have replaced the batteries, have cleaned off the bottom of the mouse, made sure the button is switched to on- all to no avail. I cannot navigate at all using the optical mouse. It is about a year old. Please advise

You said "Batteries", which means that you are using a Wireless Mouse. Have you tried a wired mouse? If not, do so. If it still doesn't work, is the wired mouse you used use a USB port? If so, then try a PS /2 mouse (Green End).If it still doesn't work, you may want to try to reinstall Windows' Mouse Driver.

Thanks for the responses. After reading through all the questions and responses, I refreshed all my drivers, disconnected from the USB, replaced the batteries again, and reconnected the usb-wonder of wonders, the mouse is working again! I don't know what worked or didn't, but thanks for the advice.
