Specs: Windows XP, Athlon4000 2gig
I have a problem that happens occasionally I will be doing a drag and drop or surfing within IE8 and the whole computer will freeze nothing works. The screen looks normal but everything is frozen, I can open and close the DVD and the hard drive light comes on, and the keyboard is frozen too, only thing is a soft reboot and its fine, until next time. Nothing shows in event viewer. I recently re-installed Xp as I hadn't done so for over 18 months, and I thought that it might be a shot driver, but it is just the same.

Software is Windows XP media center edition.

I have checked for virus and malware etc. It is a home built system as follows
Gigabyte motherboard GA-K8NS-939
Gigabyte Graphics GV-N66T128D
2 gig ram
WD Raptor 150gig HD
Seagate 340 gig HD
TV card Haupauge 1300
Mouse in a Logitec MX-Laser cordless via USB
Keyboard Microsoft Natural ps2 connection

Any ideas would be appreciated..

First I would update all the hardware drivers. Also a chkdsk /f, but first make sure your data is backed up. Then I would keep task manager open in the background and watch it as you surf. Look for resource usage. If you see anything there before the next crash, you can drill down and isolate it. Process Explorer would be my next move.

Already using processXp nothing odd there, all drivers are the most up to date, using secunia PSI.

Thanks for the reply
