Motherboards how to wipe clean or flash

Specs: Windows xp
hello,i am asking for a driend that has a messed up pc, so he cant get on here and ask..he got some kind of bad virus or malware that kept redirecting etc.his registry was messed up .he could somehow read something in the computer that told him other ppl was controlling his everything pretty much.he said it was something to do with something being on his router or box from isp. my question is how to flash or wipe a motherboard clean, and also a hard drive.his stuff is coming up in 4 different languages.he hasnt had full control of his pc in prob 6 months and anything that you can tell us to help will be so greatly appreciated...thank you tracy

You don't wipe a motherboard, you wipe the hard drive. The 1st thing your friend should do is unplug from the internet. That will prevent anyone for accessing the computer. If removing the infection is too dificult a task for you or your friend, the drive can be wiped simply by booting off the Windows CD & following the instructions. However, if your friend has a SATA hard drive, you will probably have to create a new XP disk 1st.

If his computer is as bad off as the cd rom tray, put in the OS (operating cd) and reboot. Format the hard drive using the option on the cd and do a complete re install.

Be sure the cd is the first boot option in the bios.
Leave the mother board alone, as the problem is on the hard drive.
Also tell your friend to Goggle for a free anti virus program after they are up and running

Sounds like he has a rootkit = redirect ,and a bunch of Trojans.
