JudyB, If you have the view set to show Thumbnails do the following:
Open the folder to view the thumbnails. Hold the Shift key down and click on the View button and select Details.
Remove your finger from the Shift key. You should now see the file names.
Hold the Shift key down and click on the View button and select Thumbnails.
You should now see the thumbnails with the file names (text) under them.

To turn off filenames, hold down the Shift key when you click to open a folder in Windows Explorer or when you switch into thumbnail view. This will turn of the file names, giving more space for the thumbnails. Doing it again turns them back on.

Hi tufenuf...I tried your suggestion and text is still not visible unless I click under the icon or image. I can see the text if I copy the folder to the desktop, but that's very time consuming. Any other ideas? Thanks JudyB

JudyB, Which folder or folders are you having this problem with? Is it in Windows Explorer and if it is click on View and see if it's set to Thumbnails. Post back.

Hi Tufenuf....The text is showing under the Windows Explorer folders, but the text description beneath all icons and pics INSIDE folders is missing (under every view, I've tried them all), so although I still see the icons in My Docs and My Pics , the text is missing unless I click under the image or icon and then it shows up....if I drag the folder to the desktop, then paste it back in my docs, or my pics, then the text is restored...I've been experimenting, and as soon as I drag the folder to the desktop, and open it there, the text is back......I tried your other suggestions to no avail. This has me really stumped...must be connected to the desktop, some way, I know not how...Thanks, JudyB.

JudyB, Here's a couple of things to try. Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Desktop tab click the Customize Desktop button, under the Web tab make sure that ALL boxes are unchecked, click OK/Apply/OK.

Click Start>Run the copy & paste or type in:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Click OK

Restart your computer,

Note that the spacing is important.

This indeed is a strange problem.

Hi Tufenuf....
Sorry, that didn't work, so I'm still dragging files to desktop and copying and pasting back into the folders. Boring job, but I do a few hundred files everyday...puts in the time..haha Maybe you can think of something else, and if not I really appreciate all your help..Thanks again, have a good evening, and I'm logging off 'til tomorrow. JudyB.
