I just migrated from ATT Worldnet Dialup to ATT Dial Yahoo as ATT demanded I do. Now the little tiny connected computers icon in the lower right corner are gone. It was the ones that light up when you send or receive anything. How do I get them back? Note ATT Dial is different from Worldnet, especially the screens relating to network connections.
wolfee, Have you tried goning into your Control Panel, open the Network Commections, right click the Connection icon, choose Properties and checkmark Show icon in notification area when connected and OK your way out.

Yes, I have. That is also what ATT support talked me thru. I KNOW the thing still works because I had it appear temporarily when logged on yesterday. It has since disappeared again.
I should have added that the boxes, options, buttons in the connection boxes of control panel all changed when I went to ATT Dial. I really need someone who uses the new ATT Dial Yahoo.
Have you tried contacting AT&T Tech Support? If you have Internet connectivity, why are you so worried about a system tray icon? LIR
Yes, I contacted them as noted above. ATT told me the same thing. But, they dont know what their own screens look like yet. I like to see the connection so you can tell if a web page is still sending data. Sometimes the page appears fully loaded but isn't. If the connection icon is still flashing I can tell that data is still coming. Same for sending.
I'm probably being far too basic, but have you checked that the icon is not hidden? Right click Start button > Properties > Taskbar tab > Customize button.
Set to "Hide when inactive" or "Always show".some other bloke...
Not hidden. This appears to be a ATT Dial Yahoo induced error. It has been there for 4 years. Then, I migrate from ATT Worldnet to ATT Dial Yahoo (as ATT demanded I do) and the first time I boot up after installing it, the icon is gone. Now, I have discovered that if I let the modem disconnect by itself "due to inactivity" when I click "reconnect" the icon IS there. But, only in this instance. In normal boot up it is not there nor have I figured out how to get it to appear in normal operation.
wolfee, Go to the link below and under the letter "N" scroll down to "Notification Area - Icons Disappearing" and try the "Automated Edit: or the Manual Edit" to Disable SSDP and uPNP Services. It's worth a try and you can undo it if need be. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_...

Thanks, I'll give it a try, but first please tell me what disabling this stuff means. I am a computer clambrain and always worry I'll do something that will blow the whole thing up.
They are both related to networked devices which you probably don't use. There is absolutely no fear of causing any major problem by disabling them and as Tufenuf said it is quite easy to enable them again if it doesn't help. To this end it would be best to use the manual method and note the current settings before changing them.
SSDP will show as "SSDP Discovery Service" and
uPNP will show as "Universal Plug and Play Device Host".If it makes you feel better, both are disabled on my machine. If you Google the above titles (given in quotes) you will get a full description.

Fixed. Dunno what did it, but I also messed around with some ATT Dial connection settings. Thanks.
