Missing an Internet connection driver?

Specs: Windows XP
My boyfriend was trying to help me make my computer faster by "cleaning it up", and now it will not connect to my internet router at all. The icon on the toolbar that tells you when you are connected isn't there anymore. He says he may have accidentally deleted or uninstalled a driver. Is there any way I can recover this missing driver, or maybe download a replacement?

The moral to these stories is:
If you must delete system files (not recommended) then at least keep them in the Recycle bin until you have rebooted and checked out the system. They can then be restored into their rightful places if it proves necessary. This assumes that you can still boot afterwards.
