Specs: Windows XP Pro, p4 / 1g ram
Asus a7n266-vm/aa mobo. Win xp. Two memory slots, max capacity 2gb, ddr266. I have one stick pqi 1gb ddr266 that works fine in either slot. I have one stick allcom 1gb ddr266 that works fine in either slot. Problem: When I install both sticks, no memory is recognized. No beep codes. Can't get past the boot screen.

The memory is incompatible. Could be the number or size of the chips on the module. Could be the timing or voltage. Doesn't really matter. That board supports dual channel memory. The modules must be exactly the same. Dual channel wasn't really an advantage with that series but thought I would throw it out there anyway.

You could try installing them in the opposite order.

Consult your manual. There is mention of modules with over 18 chips are not supported.

Get your manual at the link below if you don't have a printed copy. Look at 2.5.1.

Thanks so much othehill for your response and link . Both sticks have 16 chips, 2.5cl and 2.5v. However, the mobo manual says it only supports up to 1gb ram (I could swear I read somewhere else that it supported 2gb). What's baffling is that I had 1gb + 512mb sticks in there before and it worked. Computers ... go figure!
