Loss of USB keyboard during installation on Dell desktop

April 20, 2013 at 08:25:05
Specs: Windows XP
During installation on a Dell Optiplex GX-620, I am losing keyboard functionality after the files for setup are loaded. Keyboard works just fine in BIOS. No BIOS setting to enable legacy USB, and no ps/2 ports. I have tried various keyboards with same result.Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Are you reinstalling Windows?

Are you using the original Dell disks?

Does the mouse work then?

Yes, am re installing windows xp. No, I do not have the original dell branded disks. I had thought of that and am trying to track one down. Mouse at this point is not the issue. Keyboard stops working when i am asked to hit enter to install windows.

Are you using the keyboard that came with the Dell computer?

Are you sure the computer isn't just hanging? WinXP does NOT include support for SATA drives. This could be an issue.

If you can boot into the BIOS then check to see how the hard drive is being configured.
