Locks up after a few min

Specs: Windows XP
My Gateway laptop locks up after a few minutes. I login, appears to work. Then it locks up, but the mouse(cursor) will still move around the screen, just can't click on anything.

I've run scans using multiple virus/malware scanners and removed any thing that didn't look right in my HiJackThis log.

It's really strange. Never had this happen.

shagdog, strictly a SWAG, possible you have something like 'temp' files or possibly index.dat using up all available memory and the 'fix' is to simply delete them?
A common ailment is a file called 'index.dat'. It's like a log file and keeps a record of every site you visit on the web. Empty, it's 32K, but it can grow HUGE. It's a protected file and can't be deleted by normal methods. CCleaner (free @: http://www.ccleaner.com/) can get rid of it (not to worry, it gets rebuilt EMPTY on the next boot.). CCleaner can handle both.

Thanks. One of the first things I did was to run ccleaner and clear all the temp stuff and also the registry cleanup too.
