Solved laptop wont connect to my own but will an unsecured netork

Specs: Windows XP
I have tried everything i know to connect my laptop wirelessly to the net. i have even installed external adapters, but same results. Can find and connect to unsecured such as BT but wont connect to my own secure Virgin media Network? Any ideas anyone?

Try removing the wireless security from your connection if possible, just for testing purposes, as that seems to be the reason it won't connect. To remove the security you will have to go into the wireless settings section of your router's configuration utility using a web browser.

If that fixes the connection problem, that proves it's the wireless security that's causing it., so try setting the security type to the older (and less secure) WEP encryption as your laptop may not be compatible with the the newer encryption methods like WPA/WPA2

yes, pass phrase is correct. One of my laptops has no problem connecting. And i have checked my server to ensure it is unchanged. Thanks for asking though.

Makes me think the security level is not the same as that of the other laptop you mentioned. You could also check to see what security level your router is set to.
