laptop shuts off during startup

January 31, 2010 at 17:34:46
Specs: Windows XP
Spent yesterday reformatting and installing wwindows xp in an older laptop.Installed Norton antivirus and Spyware Terminator. Laptop was on about 3-4 hours with no problems.Turned it off and unplugged it until late today. When I try to start it now it turns itself off after a few seconds. If I can get into the Bios before the shutdown,I can maneuver around in it with no problem. As soon as I exit the Bios and try to start Windows, the laptop turns itself off again. I tried SafeMode with no success, it still turns off. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank You

sounds like your power supply may be faulty, or the battery is dead.
Try removing the battery and see if it boots up properly. Try the same with the ram, if you have 2 sticks, remove one and try. Then just use the other one to see if at least one ram works.

Why would you be using that resource hog Norton? That is beyond me.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
