|The screen is supposed to go dim when it's running on the battery to conserve power. If you boot into BIOS, you probably have options for brightness when plugged in and when running on the battery. When your computer restarts, press F12 (or whatever key it mentions to enter Setup) at the manufacturer's logo, which is before the Windows logo.|
