Laptop error a disk read error has occured

Specs: xp
I turned my Laptop on ( Dell Latitude D610 ) and it gave me the error A disk read error occurred press Ctr alt del to restart but when you do this it just gives the same error again and again

I have tried booting from CD to re install but it says press any key to load from cd and then it just goes blank and doesn't boot anything?

Don't know what to do, I would format the disc but i don't know how to get to command promt

Please help

make sure the CD you are booting with is Good.
The reason for this can be MBR become corrupt because of hard disk errors, disk corruption as a result of a driver bug while Windows is running, or intentional scrambling as a result of a virus.
This error occurrs due to corrupt Boot sector. most probabbly you wont have to re-install.

Boot into the Recovery Console and execute the fixboot command. This
command rewrites the boot sector of the volume that you specify. You should execute
the command on both the system and boot volumes if they are different.

Hi

I have tried the origianl dell disc and i have also purchased a new disc, which also does not boot?

It says it is about to boot from disc but then does nothing?

Any ideas

if it asks for booting from CD it should boot from CD.

Either the CD is bad or the CD ROM...
