Laptop display too small

Specs: Windows XP
Hi everyone. I put my laptop, an Inspiron 8100 into sleep mode after just getting done playing a game. about an hour or so later i re-opened it and the display wasn't fitting the screen. there's like, a half inch space of nothing in between the end of the picture and the edge of the screen. I tried changing the screen resolution, but it doesn't make any difference. and there's no buttons on the laptop itself that have anything to do with the screen.

It looks like Windows thinks the screen is smaller than it actually is or something
someone please give me a hand, I'm not very good with computers much at all. thanks

I had this problem with my old IBM Thinkpad A21m. I fixed it
by going to IBM's website and downloading the utilities that
came with the laptop. The reason they weren't on mine was
because I had formatted the computer. You said that you
were playing a game and came back to it, so the drivers
should all be there. Try rebooting it, if it is still messed up try
getting the unities from the manufacturers website.

If it still doesn't work, hopefully somebody else will be able to
help you. Sorry I can't do more.

Well see, i had exited out of the game, and closed the laptop.
I never went back into the game, i just re-opened the laptop
and it started doing that. If i put the screen resolution higher,
the display gets bigger, and when its all the way up, it fits the
screen perfectly. But if i run a game or something, the display
is like, the size of an index card
