LAN conection to Router on XP but no internet

Specs: windows XP service pack 2
I have a mac that I am using bootcamp on so I downloaded windows xp with service package 2 like i need. But for whatever reason I cannot connect to the internet. I need to establish a connection from either LAN (which should be easier) or i could also use a wireless connection. I can see the LAN connection as a 1431 connection (or something like that) but I cannot connect to it. I think i need to put in my IP address, but whenever I put in the router address (which the computer is connected to) it doesnt work. I know my modem works, because i tried the exact same thing on Leopard and it worked.

How to configure TCP/IP
On the General tab, make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both ticked.
Right click Local Area Connection > Repair.

I think that 1431 connection is like a FireWire port, not the connection to the router you're looking for. Look in the settings of BootCamp for options to enable the Ethernet connection. I don't use a Mac, so I don't have direct information, just brainstorming.
