Solved keyboard auto type plus sign (+) repetitively

November 18, 2011 at 05:09:43
Specs: Windows XP
When I want to enter any search in Google box, email log in etc and click in box I get a line of +++++++++++++ which will not delete. If I leave computer for a while it seems to sort itself out eventually. The pointer also goes haywire all over the screen and I can do nothing with it.

If it's a PC rather than a laptop it might be worth borowing another keyboard just to see if that gives the + signs too. The keyboard and mouse issues could be different.

If you know when it first started happening and it was recent you could try system restore. The reason I say that is because even if the keyboard was faulty it is a bit odd that the system cannot then delete the line of + signs it put in.

I too am in UK.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If these are wireless devices try replacing the batteries.

Please come back & tell us if your problem is resolved.

Interesting since in a standard US layout keyboard the + sign requires use of the shift key as well, so either you have two stuck keys (shift and the +/= keys) or your system might be infected.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply.Yes in U.K we also have to have to use shift key to enable + sign, and I have done just that now....and no sticking. My computer is fully guarded by Norton Antivirus and there seems to be no problem with infection, well hopefully not!!

I think Wahine meant are the keyboard and/or Mouse wireless items.

I would download, install, update, and run MalwareByte free version.
This can often find and fix viruses etc that AV's often miss. I'm not
saying it is a virus but it would be worth double checking.
